The Fred Scharmann Memorial Hiking Trip provides students the opportunity to spend three days hiking some of the best trails in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. This annual excursion into the heart of the Alberta Rockies' backcountry pays tribute to a man who was just as well known for his giving nature as he was for his love of the mountains.
This September's trip will send students to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in the heart of Kananaskis Country. With HI Kananaskis Wilderness Hostel as a base of operations, students will hike into some of the most spectacular alpine areas in the province. Scheduled hikes include Burstall Pass & Mount Smutwood. All hikes are subject to change based on weather and/or trail conditions. Spots are limited and fill up extremely quickly. Be sure to see Mr. Boutestein, Mr. Coxen or Mrs. Stafford early to ensure you're not left out of this amazing opportunity.
Planning for the September 2027 trip to HI Castle Mountain Wilderness Hostel in southern Banff National Park is already underway. Registration for that trip will occur in June of 2027.
You can sign up for free and secure hiking trip notifications by logging on to rmd.at/hikingtrip.
